A never stopping calling.

I wrote a year ago this...

"When to stop?!

Today was a lazy day I was honestly I little tired so I decided to use the day to just rest.I received a nice message from a good friend (I hope to answer the message to him tomorrow..thanks buddy!!), and gave me a nice topic to rant.

Q.When to stop?.
Well I mean not to stop pursuing the goal to be a comic book creator, is more about what is the real motif that makes you want to continue creating, One of the things I learned since some time ago and I guess was proved again with the mail I received. When you decide to draw, ink or write and You really want to do it professionally, sometimes the motif is the one that can help you reach the goal and keep at it.For example I have seen over the years incredible artists stopping their careers just because the motif was economical and instead of having more and better work they like to nurture themselves in the big harms of doing what they are said to do or follow what they think is their mark or style, so they lose the Fire that helps you continue with.My point is that If you really know what you are and also what you really want to do with the medium then it wouldn`t be any way to Stop you. That is the spark that some artists just have or do not have, the ability to try to surprise THEMSELVES everytime!!.If you expect everytime the recognition to what you do You won`t evolve, set your standards of quality and also what you are really expecting from the medium. The best encouragment comes from within.....Have a great day!!!

JESUS ANTONIO

A.If your motif is a real one You will undertand that you will never stop no matter what is around."

And I continue thinking the same...there is not an stopping point at all when the project is genuine...
Great day!!!

A year ago of my decaying flesh.

I am going to use these 2 days to have a re-evaluation time to myself.
And also see how differently I see the first posts I set over here.

Almost a year ago I wrote.

"(if this can help others to find the right answer..that would be cool but If it doesn`t happen I am fine with it).
Questions to myself the "Quest to be a comic creator". (interview to myself)

Who are you?
I am a regular guy, now reaching my 30`s ..well in some months, now I am 29, I studied Architecture and actually finished all the subjects but I haven`t gotten my thesis why? I guess I already proved what I wanted to prove to myself, I finally understood that the only person I have to please first is myself, I am a guy who develop a hard and thick crust towards critics to my life style and vocation that is to DRAW,PAINT AND ILLUSTRATE. I always learn from people and take what is worthy.Sad I haven`t seen my own country as the place to nurture my craft. And so ironically I am so happy I have found praise to my work overseas.I have started to work professionally in comics, some independent work in USA with a friend I trust (thanks Nik..if you read this some time down the road), also some work is starting to be in notice by the Spanish market, and some editors in USA, now I guess I am waiting to finally start making my living drawing full time, and hoping an editor trust my work enough to protect my career, in short terms I am still waiting for my big break.

What do you expect to do in the medium?
nothing and everything.I mean being honest If you had asked me this question before I would have said to become a mainstream artist and make everybody to be in notice of my work, but as realistic as it sounds, the dream changed its name now I called this dream a "Goal", since some years I made amends to myself, my point is that firstable Money is not the key factor (Obviously I am trying to make money with my craft but who doesn`t ...do you?.)I want only to receive the right compensation for my work and in the long run to have the liberty that economical stability offers you. If money had been the key factor since long time ago I would have decided to do something else or at least play safe and prostitute myself and my art(artistically I mean...to work with the only excuse to have money ). I understood that trying to be a comic book illustrator is the same as hitting the jackpot, If I get rich and famous is fine to me, but If I get broke with this I am also fine with it.
Why?
simple because I am doing what I love to do that is to DRAW, and also because I will die in the line....I learnt not to chicken out and I won`t for sure.If you are a guy wanting to be a comic penciler, inker, writer etc. please know yourself enough to know what you can lose or win, what you are able to sacrifice and to receive... stablish a plan B or C.I do not have plan B or C but it is my case, my own stubborn perspective that I do not need it and that I will reach the goal pretty damn soon...!!!..have a good day!!!.....JESUS ANTONIO"

Funny to see that everything is almost in the same way I think right now.
Obviously there are some evolutions in one year, I am 30 now, so I am sure I am in the right calling and track!!

Good day!!...JESUS ANTONIO

Hokusai Posted by Picasa

People do not comment that one point of reference of Art Noveau (I am not saying all of the work because Art Noveau is a mixed of Some Greek,Roman, Celtic tradition but in a way it was really influenced in a way Art Noveau for the enormous invasion of printing work coming from Japan).
and many European abstract painters used the pallete of colors and the line,Even Van Goh was influenced by this movement called Japanism.
One of the greates authors that I am starting to study for a Comic I wan to do is Hokusai!...

I want to paint again but I need to buy material to do it, I need to find some new work or comission work to have money to buy new material and start this painting.
As I was trying to channel my energy I wrote a poem to complement the idea of this sketch that will be the base of my painting (I want to draw a pastel).

Tranlastion of the Poem.
"If in Death you desire my flesh,
If in Life you desire my kisses...
Live and Die,
Die and Live!"

If you see some resemblance to the work of KLIMPT.. Yes!, you are right, the same as KLIMPT has the Japanism flavor.

Great day and well let`s see how the day becomes!!

I am not a yellow bastard!

Yellow Kid Posted by Picasa

F. Outcault is the creator of this character that in my opinion is probably the base of many of the visual comic strip work created in the earlies 1900`s.

Well the update nothing new I am now just sending mails to some great people, and friends.
I am happy the startlight of the day was that one comic creator that I am about to interview has told me that some of my questions are the best He had ever read, maybe because the interview that I am doing is from my artist point of view.
You will be amazed about this talk to him. (He is such a gentle person).

Love life:Same stuff different day..I saw You know who (I have to say that is not affecting me at all to see her..funny but real :) )Well about the other girl,I asked her out and She said that She doesn`t no yet when She will have time because She is probably going to a Concert, so what We agree is that next time I will ask her with specific date in mind.
A friend is telling me to chill out and just act according to what happens and not to overcontrol everything!! :).

see you tomorrow!!

El Clan written by Victor Alos.III

El Clan Page 1 Posted by Picasa

Translation

As I said before I will have the posts of El Clan in both languages Spanish and English.
Till today I had time to include part of the work I am doing aside Victor Alos and his greation El Clan.
El Clan is a story of vampires.
These are the first 3 pages of the project, If you can notice the absence of any background, well the nice Victor has an interesting idea to draw the backgrounds and perspectives, so when the paneling is done I will show the pages with all the work including the background.
I am still thinking in the inking and the coloring of this work, but first things first When everything is done I will worry about the technique to be in use.
A big and war hug to you Victor and thanks for your patience and we are in the game!!

Great day to you guys!!!...JESUS ANTONIO

The Corner..... Chuck Gibson Part THREE

Guys I am starting the month of August and I will try to celebrate my first Year blogging with some increible interviews to friends, people I admire and incredible creators over the months.
If everything comes great I will set a new interview everyweek.

Well this is the last part of the Interview I made to a great person and friend Chuck Gibson.
I couldn`t finish our last talk till now but it has been great because many things are changed.

If you want to see part ONE and TWO you need to check in the Archives.

To start Chuck is the person that demonstrates me the value of Loyalty and what is to be a really good professional and friend.

JESUS ANTONIO:Hey Chuck! All the time that has passed since the last questions made to you.
I have read about you deciding to become a penciler more formally. As I told you previously it is I guess the best smart move to do and I just imagine how your work will develop from now on.
Why the change?

CHUCK GIBSON:I've spent over 10 years as an inker and I think I've gone as far with it as I'm going to, really. This was always the plan from the beginning---the final goal is to write, pencil, ink, and color---doing the whole job or whatever parts interest me at that time. That's always been the goal when I aspired to get into this business. I want to be able to do it all if I want to.

JESUS ANTONIO:Plans for the future as an inker? as an artist? as a person?

CHUCK GIBSON:I have a no plans as an inker for the near future. If a project is something I want to do, then I'll ink---but no plans in the immediate future to continue inking as my sole career. As an artist, I'm going back and trying to do the things I skipped over in my development before. I'm planning on going back to school either to get a degree or going to the Gnomon school in LA to train to do 3D animation. I'm not sure which one I'll do at the moment. The main goal is to go back and do the things that are good for an artist to do that I've skipped over. A real 'back to basics' sort of goal going on.

JESUS ANTONIO:People still believe that it is easy to find a job in this medium You and I know the reality on that but What do you say to yourself everytime just not to let yourself down? I am always impressed in a very good way in the way you are realizing and understanding what is around you.

CHUCK GIBSON:I've actually spent YEARS in denial about the conclusions I've reached recently. These are things that people told me over and over that I simply didn't want to hear. I've spent a good portion of my career waiting for the business to rebound out of the slump it's been in and finally got tired of waiting for things to get better. Comics are all I've ever really wanted to do and I hate thinking of it this way, but I have a family to support and if I can't make a living here, I owe it to them to explore other things to try to do better financially. I don't think I'll ever stop doing comics entirely---I'll always do them for myself if nothing else---but I can't count on it for my living any more and I need to move along professionally because of that.

JESUS ANTONIO:What is the new work We are going to see from you or has been recently printed?

CHUCK GIBSON:Right now I'm ducking out of sight. I'm spending time on commission work and on personal work only. I want the industry to forget about me a little bit so that when I come back as a penciler there isn't a pre-conceived notion about what I can or can't do.

JESUS ANTONIO:Well this is the final question from the interview and I am just grateful to you and the person I know you are.
Do you want to say something else You think I forgot to ask or say?

CHUCK GIBSON:I think we pretty much covered it all. It's been a pleasure and I thank you for having me over to your forum here. It's been great.

End part Three.

I will let you guys know all the work that Chuck might be doing in teh long and short future.
I am wishing him the best on this new journey, and I am sure our paths will be united some day in work terms and in friendship.

Thanks Chuck again for being who you are!! :)
